The Eyes Have It On Election Day

It's Primary Election Day in our community and we are seeing and sporting these little stickers in our office. Perhaps we are a bit old fashioned but we were raised in a time when its was impolite or improper to speak of politics outside of your home or religion outside of your church. Because we see people of all ages and from all walks of life, #Drs Greg & Suzette are members of the self made "altruistic party". Within the office we are all business about the eyes. We try to avoid strong opinions on controversial matters just as we would avoid strong alcohol. One thing we have noticed about change in society and civil matters, it is like the changes that occur in glaucoma: subtle, slow and hopefully any problems can be cut off before damage is done. Small incremental changes the good way are much preferred over the bad.

As we have served in our local community now going on over 25 years, we are fortunate to know quite a few of our local leaders on a professional and personal basis. We find them all to be quality individuals. This election finds several of our friends and patients on the Primary ballot, and while we can only vote for one we wish them all the best. It has been said that voting is a privilege , a duty, and our right as citizens. We agree! If you haven't go #VOTE!

It has also been said some folks vote with their heads, some with their hearts, some with their feet. We vote with our #EYES looking for what's best for our community as a whole.

See you at the polls and as  always peace, love, and glasses,

#Dr. Greg and #Dr. Suzette

FUTURE SO BRIGHT I GOTTA WEAR SHADES

It's that time of year again, those 3 little words that kids dread but bring joy to parents' hearts:.......Back To School!!!!!

It is a time of transition for students of all ages in our office and household.....Our nephew Tyler (tall guy) who has worked in our office started medical school at UCF (Go Golden Knights!) after his graduation from the University of Wisconsin ( Go Badgers!). He has plans to become an Ophthalmologist, following in the tradition of his Grandfather,  and we are all excited for his future. Honestly, we are excited to give him the beeper for emergency call and a list of days off requested by  Dr. Suzette and Dr. Greg.  With a name like Blahnik we reckon he will be a good eye doc. Our youngest son Brett is starting his college career at USF ( Go Bulls!) after graduating from Spruce Creek (Go Hawks!). He is studying to become a civil engineer, which we think will be a good career for his analytical mind. Our middle daughter Katie whom has been working at our office as well is finishing up her associate's degree at Daytona State ( Go Falcons!) with plans to transfer in the spring to UCF ( Go Golden Knights!). She is planning on attending Optometry school. Needless to say between Katie and Tyler entering the eye care field, it is safe to say the future of Blahnik Eye Care is sound. How does that song go? " The futures so bright I gotta wear shades"

In further transitions, our oldest daughter Courtney will be off studying the school of life as she plans on pursuing humanitarian work overseas. She is off to New Zealand later this Fall. Our extra daughter Shannon whom has been working in our office for 2 years is migrating to Orlando as well as she has accepted a new position in optical sales and following her heart:-)  Only reason we aren't crying losing her as an employee is because she will always be our extra daughter!! We taught her everything she knows so she will kick butt and perfectly frame lots of Orlando peeps (Go Magic!)  She taught us plenty about rainbows and laughter.

Also within our office; Kyle Dubois, whom many of you may have seen shadowing Dr Greg this summer is back to campus at UCF (Go Golden Knights!). Despite putting up with Dr Greg's office nonsense this summer, he plans on becoming an Optometrist as well. We also had to say goodbye to the beautiful, Jessica Hernandez, who volunteered with us gaining experience working in an office setting. She is off to UNF (Go Osprey!!) These two are Creek (Go Hawks!!) grads off to make their marks in the world.

For those of you that don't know, #Dr Greg has mentored many students studying Optometry. We have Optometrists in our community including a recent grad, current students in Optometry, and several future students who have studied in our practice. We enjoy having the students in the office and our patients seem to enjoy it as well.

As far as back to school for us eye docs....well, there is always continuing education and another type of school we favor. So fingers crossed that the weather cools off and Drs Greg and Suzette will get a chance to chase  #SCHOOLS of red fish& trout down in the Mosquito Lagoon this Fall ( memo to mom: keep your tip up! Don't horse the fish!).....(memo to dad: let me cast my own and I KNOW!) Yes, that is their nicknames for each other (not joking!)

Peace, love and glasses,
#DRGREG and #DRSUZETTE

Who wouldn't want to be #GIRLBOSS?

This interview was so much fun and really caused a great reflection on how lucky we are to have a wonderful staff, practice, and patients. Love being a #girlboss and creating but the truth is nobody does it alone and much credit has to go to #DrGreg and the girl gang who work it every single day. Now we need our patients to stand for a round of applause because honestly they are the stars in the sky......thank you! Surrounding one's self with AWESOME peeps is actually the real secret (SHHHHHH!)
Thanks for taking the time to check this out and as always...Peace, Love, and Glasses
#Dr. Suzette
P.S. Thanks to weloveeyesxo, Dr. Tanya Gill, for the opportunity:-)

Which is better one or two?

WELCOME TO OUR BLOG and EYE CARE PARTY!!!

For our inaugural post, it should be noted what a very wise person (OK, it was Dr. Suzette) had to say about posting on social media:  "Don't post anything that would embarrass your mother, your family, yourself or your business. Most important honey, don't say anything to embarrass your wife!" (Dr. Greg has to be reminded of this constantly as he is prone to gaffe's)

So other than that, the sky is the limit! Our goal is to be entertaining and informative. Optometrist are known to be technical geeks, trying to figure out "which is better one or two?" But we really do know lots of great stuff about eyeballs and want to share it with our peeps.

Our blog will feature a broad spectrum of topics from FAQ's in eye care to our favorite recipes. Hope you find it interesting and often share a laugh with us!  Eye care is a serious business but can also be  rather funny and entertaining at times..... like when Dr. Greg started wearing bifocals:-)

A word to the wise: we will  feature funny patient stories. Laughter is often the best medicine and it wouldn't be right not to share a chuckle or two! Please be advised that the names have been changed and the details probably tweaked to protect the innocent and of course respect patient privacy.  Funny stories about us are precluded from this qualification.

Stay tuned as we get this party started.
Until then...Peace, Love and Glasses,

Dr. Suzette and Dr. Greg
